Sinulog is a ritual dance in honor and adoration of the Santo  (Holy Child Jesus). The dance moves two
forward and one step backward to the beat of the drums. These resemble the current ( Sulog ) of what was
known as Cebu’s Pahina River. Thus Cebuanos called it Sinulog. They say that sinulog, which is of pagan
origin, is the link between the country’s pagan past and it’s Christianity in the country. This became the
oldest religious in age in Cebu, City in the Philippines, and is connected with the beginning of Christianity
in the country.

Tradition say that, when Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and his men found the Santo Nino, the image was so
burnt that it was hardly recognizable amongst the collection of native pagan idols. The native Cebuanos
were not fully Christianized then and continued to believe in their pagan gods, recognizing the Santo Niño 
only as another “anito” (idol). But long before the Portuguese navigator conquered the island of Cebu in
April 7, 1521, the natives were already dancing sinulog in honor of their wooden idols and anitos. Throug
 1521, the dance was a small ritual by a few in front of wooden idols or before the Santo Niño. In fact, at the
Santo Niño church where the image is consecrated, only the candle vendors could be seen dancing the
Sinulog and making offerings.

The celebration begins with the nine days novena prayer. The ceremonies begin with an early pluvial
parade re-enacting the coming of the Spaniards. The Holy Mass and procession follows with the people 
dancing to the distinctive Sinulog rhythm while holding the image of Santo Niño aloft. Celebration
attracts many devotees in some churches in the Philippines.

In April 7, 1521, a Portuguese sailor Ferdinand Magellan discovered Cebu (biggest city in the Central
Visayas in the Philippines, formerly known “Sugbu”). He conquered the land and introduced Christianity

During the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors led by Miquel Lopez de Legaspi in 1565, the image was
found relatively unscathed. The image was quickly acknowledged as miraculous, and a church was later 
constructed n the site of the discovery. Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Father Urdaneta gave order to house 
appropriately the famous statue in San Agustin church (oldest church in Cebu, Philippines, and renamed

        Hello…WoRld?? Here i come! I’m Mae Liquip, 18 years of age.  I was born on May 28, 1990 at K.M.9 Diplahan Zamboanga del Sur. We are five members of the family with three children.

 In my elementary grade i was graduated in Alegria Elementary School, and in my secondary i was graduated in Saint Peter Academy of Alegria last 2005-2006. I am currently studying in college taking up Computer Science, expecting to be a successful person someday and to fulfill my dream in life.

             The name MAE LIQUIP is type of person who is friendly, cheerful and smilling. Who accept friends who has different characteristics and behavior in their personality as long as they will not cheat me. Accept them who they are, and what type of physical appearance they have.The important thing they will be part of my life as well as their life that can make me happy and inspired for all the things that I’ve done in  this world. Having more friends can make my day full of energy and wear a good smile in everyway!

Sometimes if I’m in a good mood, i will be a funny type one. My hobbies in life now is just listening music, singing and reading some interesting books.
